Upholding the importance of organically-grown vegetables, the NSS Unit of the college took an initiative to cultivate a vegetable garden on the campus, comprising of organically-grown vegetables and fruits. The NSS volunteers put a large effort into the promotion of organic farming. Vegetables cultivated are namely beans, brinjal, tomato, green chilli, etc. In 2020, a Rain Shelter of 100 M 2 for cultivating vegetables was built on the campus with the financial support of the Department of Agriculture, Government of Kerala. The Agricultural Officer of the Melukavu Grama Panchayath guided and supervised the construction. The department
also provided seeds of vegetables. Presently, we have the facility for cultivating around 450saplings in grow bags. We use the natural manure from the Thumboormuzhy Compost Pit for organic farming.
Our campus garden activities instills a habit of sustainability, nutritional thought, and ultimately self-sufficiency amongst the students. We use the natural manure from the Compost Pit for the vegetation and cultivation of this garden. Vegetable gardening is a brilliant method to tie the students to the natural world and food products, effective gardening and agricultural concept.
