The library is the reservoir of energy that fuels our imagination. As new vistas of knowledge open up in all fields of education, access to it becomes mandatory for self-improvement. The library started functioning since the inception of the college and it is the key resource of information for our academic community.
Henry Baker College Library offers students an excellent selection of books, periodicals, journals, e-information resources, CDs and audio-visual aids with internet facilities. Hardbound volumes of the back issues of leading journals and magazines are also available. The Library has a collection of over 15500 volumes and subscribes to prestigious journals and periodicals around the globe. Library enhances reading habits in students by creating a learning space which is computerised by establishing Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC), Internet browsing area and laptop zone with Wi-Fi facility. ILMS Software KOHA provides a user-friendly system that supports all housekeeping operations of the Library. Braille Open Source Software helps students who are blind or visually impaired the power to learn and read at the same pace. Library entrance offers access into the library via an accessible ramp pathway for physically challenged students using wheelchairs.
Special sections are provided for competitive exams, career guidance and advanced learning. Library also supplements the academic, intellectual, informational, inspirational, spiritual and recreational requirements with its resources and services. With the calm and tranquil ambience library has a special call to the students who go there and quench their thirst for reading.

- The Library will remain closed on Sundays and other notified holidays as per college academic calendar.

Rules & Regulations
How to Borrow a Book?
- Before getting books and other reading materials, students should produce their identity cards.
- To get books on loan, UG students have to obtain one Borrowers Ticket and P.G. students have to obtain two Borrowers Ticket. If the card is irrecoverably lost, request for a duplicate card will be considered on payment of Rs. 50/- each. For each card, a student can take two books at a time.
- The queue system is to be followed at the issue counter. Differently-abled students need not wait in the queue.
- The period of the loan is usually 14 days including the day of issue. After that period a fine of Re. 1 per day will be levied per book. If the due date happens to be a holiday, books need to be returned only on the next working day, except during the major vacation. Any book which is temporarily in special demand may be lent for shorter periods as determined by the Librarian.
- Books on the loan may be called back at any time if a special need arises.
- Books will be lent to the members of the staff on production of their library ID and getting their signature in a personal ledger maintained for the purpose. No member of the staff is allowed to keep with him more than 5 books at a time. All the books should be returned at the end of the academic year.
- Members are not allowed to sub-lend the books of the library
- All final year students should return the books borrowed from the library two weeks before the closing of the academic year.
- Teachers can take reference materials on loan for overnight.
Damage to book
- Readers will be responsible for any damage caused to books or any library property. To be safe, when a book is issued to a reader, he/she must point out to the librarian any defect noted concerning the book. Otherwise, the presumption will be that the book was quite intact when issued.
- If a book is damaged or lost by a member, he is liable to pay three times the cost of the book or Rs. 500/- (Five Hundred) whichever is higher within the time fixed by the librarian. If one volume of a set is damaged or lost by a member he/she must replace it by a copy of the same edition. If such a copy is not available, he shall replace the whole set within the time fixed by the Librarian. If a student happens to recover a lost volume after having replaced it or paid the value thereof, he will not be allowed to return it to the library and get back the new copy or its price.
General rules

E-Resources
♦ N-LIST
Henry Baker College is registered for the N-LIST programme, which is an initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) under the National Mission on Education through ICT. The N-LIST project provides access to e-resources to students, researchers and faculty from colleges and other beneficiary institutions through server(s) installed at the college INFLIBNET Centre. The authorized users from college can access e-resources and download articles required by them directly from the publisher’s website once they are duly authenticated as authorized users through servers deployed at the INFLIBNET Centre.
♦ DELNET / Inter Library Loan
To facilitate efficient and effective searching of information through the various online database and union catalogue, Library has taken one year membership of Developing Library Network (DELNET), J.N.U Campus, Nelson Mandela Road, Vasant Kunj,New Delhi.
DELNET has launched a new discovery portal for member libraries. Through this portal users can access Research Articles,e-books,e-journals, Thesis, Books and millions of bibliographic records.
DELNET provides the delivery of individual books as and when required by member libraries and photocopies of articles published in India and abroad through the Inter Library Loan/Document Delivery Services.
♦ National Digital Library of India
The National Digital library of India is a project under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, India. The objective is to collect and collate metadata and provide full text index from several national and international digital libraries, as well as other relevant sources. NDLI has been developed by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur. It is single window platform that collects resources from premier learning institutions in India and abroad and other relevant sources. It is open to all at free of cost.Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) under its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT) has initiated the National Digital Library of India (NDL India) pilot project to develop a framework of virtual repository of learning resources with a single-window search facility. Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find out the right resource with least effort and in minimum time.
Access to a great variety of English literature and language resources, children’s books, self-help guides and international magazines, along with an elaborate digital library of popular e-magazines, journals, books, audio books, games, B-school resources and more, available 24x7!

Extension Library
Kurathikudy is a Muthuvan Tribal Settlement in the Idukki District. It is in the inner forest of Mangulam Forest Range. Majority of them completed higher studies but they lack opportunities for further studies and job. Henry Baker College decided to provide a library for them with various levels of study materials such as - Competitive Job Oriented books, Career Guidance books, Newspapers, General Knowledge Books, Novels, Story Books and books for primary school children were also arranged in the library.

Koha is the best open-source library automation software. Over 3,000 academic, public, and special libraries around the world are associated. In India, libraries of prestigious institutions such as British Council Libraries, IIM Ahmedabad, and Mysore University are using this software.
HBC library embarked upon automating the activities of our Library implementing KOHA – an open-source software package -which is an integrated library management system that supports all housekeeping operations such as acquisition, cataloguing and circulation. The processes of issuing books, return of books and reservation is supervised by KOHA and records for all library members – students, faculty members of the college.
KOHA software is implemented in thousands of libraries around the world, from small libraries to large university libraries holding millions of items.
