Department of Physics commenced in the year 1982 by the introduction of science group in Pre-Degree Courses and upgraded to an undergraduate department in the year 1998. We offer UG programme in Physics with Mathematics and Chemistry as the complementary courses. We have opted Information Technology and Physics in daily life as the choice based course and open course respectively. The department functions with well equipped Mechanics and Electronics Labs. Faculty of the department are actively involved in scientific research in diverse areas, mainly in the field of Astrophysics and Material science. Over the years, the faculties put in relentless efforts in training, average and socially backward students for quality education in Physics and equip them with skills for higher education.

The Physics Association is instrumental in organizing student-related activities to promote both curricular and extracurricular events. For the academic enrichment of the students, the department organises various programmes such as invited lectures by eminent personalities, science exhibitions, intercollegiate as well as interschool science quiz competitions, poster exhibitions, Power Point presentation competitions, puzzle contest etc. Every year the department observes important scientific events like World Ozone Day and National Science Day as part of an awareness program. An industrial visit is organised to scientifically important places as part of the curriculum. A study tour/trip is also organized for final year students every year which help them to explore and discover new interests. An endowment was instituted to encourage students by retired faculty Prof. Anie George for B Sc Physics students, who secure highest marks in the final year university exams.
