The Postgraduate Department of History has steadily grown and emerged as one of the leading departments of the College since its inception. The department came into existence in 1995 with an aided programme in B. A. History. In 2014 the department was upgraded as a postgraduate department with MA History. This marked an important phase in the development of the department. The department is dynamic and keeps the college vibrant by providing increased opportunities in both curricular and extracurricular aspects. The department along with its academic advancements focuses on Tribal studies, as a means to develop research aptitude among students. The department offers five certificate courses. The department has hosted regular Seminars and Workshops over the years. Our highlights are Oral History Archives, Heritage Museum, Historica (manuscript Magazine), A Shelf for Melukavu, Reading Club, Field Visits and  Vibrant Alumni Association. The department always enhances a research attitude and critical inquiring spirit among the students. We continue to explore new avenues by addressing the demands and issues of the times through knowledge dissemination.

The Department is established in tune with the great vision of the college to impart education which leads to the holistic development of young ones to a meaningful life. The department is also committed to produce socially and economically self reliant young persons who can design and decide the future of our nation.

The Department aims to be an open and welcoming site for a robust exchange of ideas and the encouragement of scholarly excellence. We are committed to develop in students vital skills such as critical thinking, analysis, verbal expression, and effective writing. Thus our students could acquire knowledge and skills that help them develop as informed, engaged, and thoughtful citizens.
